Private Domain, an exhibition curated by Dr. Debra Murphy for the UNF Gallery, presents recent large-scale paintings and mixed media works by North Carolina-based artist Virginia Derryberry inspired by themes and elements drawn from mythology and alchemy. Although grouped in classical tableaux compositions, at closer look the contemporary characters in these works occupy separate spaces, seemingly adrift in their own private domain, a virtual, shifting world where nothing is quite what it seems.
