MARGARET ROSS TOLBERT: LOST SPRINGS
SEPTEMBER 23, 2017 - DECEMBER 31, 2017
OVER THE LAST TWENTY YEARS, Gainesville-based painter Margaret Ross Tolbert has contemplated the springs of North Florida in an ongoing body of work, where a paradisiacal presence provides a sense of ideal destination and the exotic in the here-and-now. The exhibition Lost Springs counterpoints the sense of passage, time, and journey implicit in the Door paintings. In this series, Tolbert explores her personal sense of loss as she bemoans the tragic inundation of the Ocklawaha system by the Kirkpatrick Dam.
