As in years past, MOCA Jacksonville is pleased to present a selection of prints created by students in the Printmaking course “Art + Politics” at University of North Florida. Led by Professor Sheila Goloborotko, students are encouraged in this course to freely discuss and interpret, respectfully disagree, and learn to develop common ground, through art. Alongside, are prints by Florida State College (FSCJ) printmaking students. The course culminated with the celebration of the 2024 Blocktoberfest, when printmaking students from UNF and FSCJ work collaboratively, printing the large-scale woodcuts on the FSCJ campus.

As expressed by Professor Goloborotko: “Who hasn’t felt fear, prejudice, depression, or exclusion? These universal struggles——alongside environmental instability, displacement, and systemic injustices—threaten peaceful coexistence. While some students feel these impacts personally, others focus on collective well-being. In today’s divisive climate, finding common ground can feel elusive.”

Special thanks to FSCJ professor Patrick Miko.
