On the occasion of the museum’s 100th anniversary, MOCA presents an exhibition built around the Norman E. Fisher Collection, in MOCA’s permanent collection. These unique holdings map an extraordinarily vibrant period in late 20th century American culture; a moment when an informal, yet singular, group of artists in 1970s New York sparked a collective energy that was to drive intense experimentation across the visual and performing arts, as well as in music and writing. Whatever their chosen art form, these artists shared excitement in displacing their work from traditional contexts, exploring the cross-fertilization of ideas. The exhibition will include works by Lynda Benglis, Tina Girouard, Mary Heilmann, Christopher Makos, Gordon Matta-Clark, Leandro Katz, Richard Landry, Richard Nonas, Yoko Ono, Keith Sonnier, Jackie Winsor, William Wegman and Lawrence Weiner, among many others. An exciting array of public programs will play an important role in further contextualizing the exhibition.
