ARTS UNF SOCIAL MEDIA ASSISTANT

MOCA Jacksonville is offering an experiential learning internship opportunity for Hicks Honors College students. This position will report directly to the Director of Communications, Arts UNF and will develop social media content for the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville. Ideal students will be willing to commit to at least two consecutive semesters of participation.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Social Media intern will develop a deep understanding of the museum’s current social media tactics and develop a strategy and plan to enhance its social media communications. The intern will assist with all social media-related activities and complete a significant project. Tasks will include:

  • Attending meetings with museum departments and community partners
  • Collaborating with teams across the museum and university
  • Crafting messaging and associated creative, including capturing and editing photo and video content in alignment with the museum’s brand standards and creating basic graphics
  • Assist in maintenance of current social media accounts, including crafting post content, scheduling posts and events, and responding to comments, messages, and reviews
  • Pulling reports and analyzing data for each account
  • The creation of a strategy and plan as outlined below

SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGY AND PLAN

  • EVALUATION: The intern will evaluate MOCA’s current social media accounts and present a status report, including a breakdown of audiences, evaluation of audience activity, and recommendations for increasing engagement.
  • PLATFORMS: Research social media opportunities not currently being used by the museum. Present an opinion for or against MOCA’s participation in each platform, including pros and cons, potential ROI, and a basic strategy addressing establishment of an audience and how to make posts engaging and relevant to the audience(s) on the platform(s). If approved, the intern will establish new accounts on behalf of the museum.
  • STRATEGY & PLAN: Create a comprehensive social media strategy and plan for the following program season, including a strategic outline, a breakdown of target audiences, communication goals and methods for each platform, post content, and metrics of success. The plan will be created initially as a Word Document and should be structured around the museum’s exhibition and public program schedule, along with relevant dates and holidays, and impact/outcome stories. It will include copy and imagery for each post (photo, video, graphic), any related links, hashtags, and partners to be tagged. Each post should identify its purpose, as related to the strategy, as well as the target audience, platform, and goal. Platform analytics, museum data, exhibition and program descriptions, and a library of photographs will be made available to the intern for this project.
  • REVIEW & APPROVAL: The strategy and plan will be presented to the Director of Communications in stages for feedback and revision. Content will be evaluated on relevance, alignment with the strategy and brand, grammar and readability, and effectiveness of communication.
  • IMPLEMENTATION: Once the strategy and plan have been approved, the intern will schedule content on the museum’s social media accounts. They will monitor changes at the museum and make updates to the posts as appropriate, with the approval of the Director of Communications.

CONTENT ASSIGNMENT

Create a series of social media posts promoting the upcoming events and exhibitions. Information about events can be found on MOCA's Eventbrite calendar. Additional exhibition information can be found in MOCA’s web page for upcoming exhibitions. The final assignment should include:

  • A brief identification of at least three key audiences for this event.
  • Text for 3 social media posts promoting the event with the goal of reaching the three identified audiences. Think about the event details that might interest different audiences and the types of content most likely to resonate.
  • Each post should have an accompanying visual element—photo, video, graphic, etc. A selection of images can be found on Dropbox.
