The Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville is pleased to present the first institutional survey of the work by Jacksonville native Whitney Oldenburg, including recent sculpture and drawings.

Oldenburg’s work explores the boundary between subject and object, unraveling the reciprocal relationship between humans and materials.  She is interested in how we form attachments to material things and how what we build, touch, or throw away participates in shaping our inner and outer worlds. Through her thought-provoking sculptures, she invites us to reflect on the complex interplay between material possessions, social dynamics, and value systems within our contemporary culture.

Oldenburg obtained her bachelor's degree from Cornell University and graduated with her MFA from Rhode Island School of Design. She currently lives and works in New York.
