Jeremy Dean (b. Lubbock, TX, 1977), has built a reputation for questioning the historical narrative we are taught to take for truth. Mining archival documentation, Dean's work brings new histories to light or alters the accepted materiality of others. For his installation at MOCA, Dean's multimedia project uses pieces of the foundation of the pedestal of a Confederate Monument recently taken down in St. Augustine presented together with historical images of the Civil Rights movement in Florida. This juxtaposition of old and new will provide a unique opportunity to educate about the past and provide much needed context for the present.
