ANDREW DEUTSCH
Andrew Deutsch is a sound artist and college professor, best known for his work with electronic music. He holds a BFA in video art and printmaking from Alfred University, as well as an MFA in integrated electronic art from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.1 Since 1988, Deutsch has released his solo electronic music through his label, Magic If Recordings. Each edition of his work also showcases Deutsch's graphic art.
Throughout his career, Andrew Deutsch has collaborated with artists such as Tetsu Inoue, Pauline Oliveros, Ann Hamilton, John Cage, and Yvar Mikshoff. His collaboration with the two latter, entitled Empty Words 4, is a part of the limited archives of the John Cage Trust at Bard College. Deutsch's skill in his craft has also been recognized through a number of awards, such as an Arts Fellowship in Video Art and a Special Opportunity Stipend, both from the New York Foundation of the Arts. His recording, the Sun, was also listed amongst “the best of 2005 in music” by Artforum Magazine.
Deutsch has produced several video works during his time with the Experimental Television Center in New York, as well as through collaborations with English guitarist Keith Rowe and musician Ed Sanders.
Andrew Deutsch is currently a professor in the School of Art and Design and member of the Institute for Electronic Art at Alfred University. He also serves on the Pauline Oliveros Foundation Board of Advisors.
