Since the 1990s, Weng Yunpeng has been creating paintings, photographs, and video work that engage social and political themes. Yunpeng studied painting at the East China Normal University and received his M.A. in painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA). His paintings often illustrate contemporary Chinese landscapes, cityscapes, and intimate interior spaces that feature in varying sizes, televisions depicting political leaders or political events. In doing so, Yunpeng addresses how the media plays a role in shaping perceptions of regional and global identities. Yunpeng's work has been exhibited at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University and widely throughout East Asia including the Guangdong Museum of Art, the National Art Museum of China, and the Minsheng Art Museum.
