Andrea Jakes graduated from the University of North Florida in 1991 with a Bachelor of Fine Art, concentrating in painting and printmaking.
Jakes' early interest in color and design is still the foundation for her artwork. Her diverse subjects are inspired by nature, travel, and an inner and emotional response to life experience, as well as her interest in energy and healing. Her career as a clinical psychologist has had a permanent influence on her life and art, and an early emphasis on figure drawing can still be found in her work.
Jakes focused on drawing and painting while earning her BFA at UNF and studied sculpture at UNF and FSCJ. A year of concentration in oils at UF, as well as workshops in Italy and France, expanded her art in new directions. Jakes currently works in her studio in Jacksonville, Florida, and travels when she can.
Andrea Jakes has taught drawing and collage, has garnered regional awards and national recognition, and has exhibited in Florida and New York. Her work is in private collections across the country, and in Florida collections, including the City of Orlando, the Maitland art Center, and Hope Haven Children's Clinic.
