Alex Ackerman designs and builds oversight and implementation of expansion projects, such as proton/photon accelerator vaults, and marketing and public relations for the Ackerman Cancer Center offices in Jacksonville and Amelia Island. She attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, studying design, buying, and merchandising. Originally from Brookline, Massachusetts, she met her husband, Scot Ackerman, in New York and moved to Jacksonville in 1988. She was the co-owner of Alford Ackerman Gallery in San Marco for ten years, showing local artists and fine art jewelry from around the world. Ackerman is also an avid antiques collector. She has been involved with the American Cancer Society, Jewish Federation of Jacksonville, Jewish Community Alliance, St. Vincent's HealthCare Foundation, Fashion Group International North Florida, Beth El Synagogue, Etz Chaim Synagogue, Jacksonville Children's Chorus, and Jewish National Fund. Ackerman said her mother, a commercial fashion designer and children's book illustrator, is her favorite artist.
