Two new exhibitions on one free day

September 16, 2016 // by Denise M. Reagan

Smithsonian Museum Day Live! is even better this year with free admission to two MOCA Jacksonville exhibitions on the day they open to the public.

MOCA Jacksonville is participating in this fantastic opportunity for visitors to access the Museum for free on Saturday, September 24. Each year, Smithsonian magazine sponsors a day when participating museums across the country provide free admission for anyone with a Museum Day Live! ticket. The event provides access for all to enjoy and share in our nation's dynamic heritage and cultural life.

On the third floor, tour Retro-spective: Analog Photography in a Digital World to see the work of eight artists who use nineteenth century photographic processes to create contemporary work.

On the second floor, visit Breaking Ground: The Donald and Maria Cox Collection, featuring objects recently donated by Maria Cox to transform MOCA's Permanent Collection.

Enjoy Ethan Murrow's Project Atrium wall drawing Plethora, created with about 800 Sharpie markers. You can also see Sustain: Clay to Table in the UNF Gallery, featuring place settings and tableware by sixteen North American ceramic artists. Don't miss Inside the Outline: Art with a Heart in Healthcare on the fifth floor, which displays silhouettes painted by children who were patients at Wolfson's Children Hospital to express their personalities.

Museum Day Live Shared Vision and Slow Catalogs c
Visitors who join or renew a membership at the registration desk on September 24 may choose a catalog from one of two previous MOCA exhibitions: Shared Vision: The Sondra Gilman and Celso Gonzalez-Falla Collection of Photography or Slow: Marking Time in Photography and Film. While you're here, take advantage of a membership special. Both of these catalogs tie thematically to Retro-spective by providing context to the history of photography as an art form (Shared Vision) or exploring experimental photography (Slow).
